Our customer is a deaf-led charity that makes arts and culture events accessible. They wanted to gain a deeper understanding of user preferences regarding the quality of subtitles at live events
THE CHALLENGE
Our customer needed to gather data on how users who are deaf, deafened, or hard of hearing perceive the quality of live event subtitles. The challenge was to find a surveying solution that could collect data to provide insights into their preferences regarding key aspects such as accuracy and timing across different methods of creating live subtitles, as well as to gauge their acceptance of these methods in various contexts.
THE SOLUTION
Peak Signal designed and developed a bespoke online survey tool to address the customer’s research needs. The solution involved presenting participants with a series of short videos, each featuring a different subtitling method. To prevent familiarity bias, the order in which the videos were displayed was randomised. After viewing each video, the survey collected user ratings on the subtitles’ accuracy and timing, as well as opinions on the situations where that level of quality would be acceptable
